A Colorful, Liveable Dining Room E-Design Project

Thank you all so much for your support on my last post! Everyone unanimously voted to go with the pipe shelving! I truly appreciate all of your tips and encouragement. I will post some basement progress pictures this weekend, but today, I have an exciting e-design project to show. I have been working with this amazing client for a while on different rooms, and we have just completed the dining room. She already had the furniture pieces for the space and was looking to add some color, pattern and modern fun to the room. We want this dining room to flow with the other areas we recently finished in her home, as well as work with the nearby spaces she already completed herself. My client loves a color palette of blues, greens and oranges. Here is the accessory design board I came up with...

The Design

This might be one of my favorite projects to date. I love how fun and colorful this room will be, as well as the small, new details we will add to the space. The ceiling trim images shown at the bottom left side of the board is an idea I had for her ceiling. She also has crown molding around the perimeter of the room, so we will add this three inch band of trim all the way around the room. I can't wait to see how that looks! I was inspired by this project by Tobi Fairley...

I also adore the new prints that will be hung on either side of her hutch. They are shown on either side of the lanterns on the design board. When I was pinning the artist's work on pinterest, my client saw them and immediately e-mailed to tell me that's what she wanted. That worked out great, because I was pinning them for her dining room! I love it when I am in sync with client's ideas.

If there's space in your living room, I love the idea of adding a console behind the sofa that doubles as a desk. Even better, using inexpensive materials to achieve the look. This looks like they used plumbing pipes to make the desk legs. I hope to make bookshelves with a similar look for our home. More on that later...

In the right space, I love dark, moody walls. It looks like this bedroom gets a lot of natural light and has a great balance of creamy white, to tone down the dark walls. I will go moody and dark in our office this spring. This color to be exact!

I have admired industrial style chairs like these for a while! Nicole's dining room is fabulous, and there are so many amazing elements in this room. I love the balance of the metal with the wood. This is the plan for our kitchen someday!

This bedroom is both stunning and casual! I love symmetry in bedroom design, and this styling has it down to perfection! I am doing some similar styling for a client's bedroom, and this is great inspiration. I am also loving bird art at the moment, and these whimsical framed prints are beautiful in this space.

How sweet is the above image?!? I used a similar idea for a client's dining room table, and I might just have to do this myself. When my mom and I head out to the antique fest this summer, I will be on the hunt for vintage glasses and vases to recreate this look! It's simple, can be inexpensive, and you can use greenery from your yard! I feel a new dining table centerpiece coming on!

Gathering Inspiration from Design Bloggers

As I put together my most recent e-design project, I scoured pinterest and some favorite blogs for ideas. I knew the direction this space was going, and knew I could count on these on line sources for beautiful image examples of my ideas! It always amazes me the amount of information out there from which to draw inspiration. This e-design was for a master bedroom and she was looking for a modern, traditional space that felt serene and calm. Here are some of the suggestions I made for this client:

Black Door:

I suggested my client paint her interior doors in her room black. I thought it would feel cocoon like and be a perfect blend of modern with traditional.

Fresh Hydrangeas:

Fresh flowers look great in any space and this is a perfectly inexpensive way to make the master bedroom feel warm and serene. One of my favorite types of flowers are hydrangeas, like the beautiful display above.

Gallery Wall Around TV:

The clients have a similar television in their bedroom and a gallery wall around it is a wonderful way to mask the tv and make it feel part of the art.

Lamp and Book Vignette:

A Thoughtful Place

The clients have one night stand that is taller than the other, like this example above. Placing a few books under one lamp is a great way to make the space feel symmetrical and balance out the height difference.
